Microwave Repair — Book a Visit Today

A microwave quits in stages. First the turntable drags. Then the plate comes out lukewarm. One morning the door latch clicks and nothing happens at all. Inside that cabinet are high-voltage parts that hold a charge after unplugging, which is why we do not hand out DIY steps for the guts of it. Our visit starts with the door interlock switches, the magnetron and diode, the touchpad membrane, and the cooling fan path. Over-the-range units get extra attention at the mounting plate and vent, since Ohio Valley grease and humidity cake up fast above a gas burner. We work on countertop, built-in, and combination wall units from every major maker. Tell us what you hear and smell.

Microwave Repair — residential microwave being serviced

The microwave symptoms we hear most

  • It runs but the food stays cold Magnetron, high-voltage diode, or capacitor failure
  • There's a loud hum, then it trips the breaker Shorted capacitor or transformer drawing too much current
  • The buttons don't respond anymore Worn touchpad membrane or failed control board
  • Sparks and a burnt smell inside Damaged waveguide cover or arcing on scorched cavity paint
  • Turntable won't spin and the plate heats uneven Drive motor, coupler, or roller ring wear

Safe things to check first

Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.

  • 1Unplug the unit for two minutes, plug it back in, and see if the display resets itself.
  • 2Push the door until it clicks firmly — a latch that never seats will stop the unit cold.
  • 3Check the outlet with a lamp or phone charger, and look for a tripped GFCI nearby.
  • 4Lift out the glass tray and roller ring, wash them, and make sure the coupler underneath sits flat.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Ring us or fill in the form. Describe the noise, the smell, the puddle. Give us the brand and rough age. Small details narrow the part before anyone drives to your door.

  2. Step 2

    We set a window

You get a visit window that fits your day, not ours. We text when the van is close. Older shotgun houses have tight halls, so tell us where the machine sits.

  3. Step 3

    Diagnose and repair

Our tech tests the machine, shows you what failed, and explains the fix in plain words. Common parts ride in the van. Anything ordered, we schedule the return before we leave.

Microwave Repair — quick answers

Is a microwave even worth repairing?

Often yes, especially for built-in and over-the-range models where the cabinet opening is sized to that unit. Replacing one usually means trim work. Countertop units are a closer call. We tell you what failed and let you decide without pressure.

Can I open it up myself first?

Please don't. The capacitor inside stores a dangerous charge long after the cord is pulled, and it can hurt you badly. Unplugging, cleaning, and resetting are fine. Anything behind the metal shroud should wait for a technician with a discharge tool.

Why does my over-the-range unit blow grease around the kitchen?

The vent is either set to recirculate with a clogged charcoal filter, or the damper outside is stuck. We check the filter, the blower wheel, and the duct direction. Humid river-valley air makes grease film build up quicker than most folks expect.

Do you work on built-in and drawer microwaves?

We do. Built-ins, wall-oven combinations, and drawer styles all get serviced. Those need careful removal from the cabinet, so we plan for extra time and bring help when a unit sits high or weighs more than one person should lift.

What brands can you handle?

All the major residential names. We're an independent shop, not tied to any manufacturer, so we source parts by model and serial number. Give us those digits off the door frame sticker when you call and we can check availability first.

How long does a repair visit take?

Most single-part jobs finish in one visit once we have the part on the van. Control boards and magnetrons for less common models sometimes need ordering. We diagnose first, tell you the wait, then schedule the return around your day.

Why homeowners call us

  • Hard water is our daily workLimestone water scales heating elements, clogs dishwasher jets, and crusts up valves. We see it every week here. So we look past the error code to the mineral buildup that caused it, then tell you how to slow it down.
  • River-valley damp changes thingsHumidity in this valley rusts dryer housings, sours washer gaskets, and stalls condensate drains. Basement laundry rooms suffer worst. We check venting and drainage on every laundry call, because a dry machine stays fixed longer.
  • Independent, all major brandsWe work on refrigerators, ranges, ovens, dishwashers, washers, and dryers from every major maker. No brand pays us and no brand tells us what to say. Our advice about repairing or replacing is only ours.
  • Old houses, careful handsShotgun homes and pre-war kitchens have narrow doorways, soft floors, and odd wiring. We pad thresholds, protect trim, and move heavy units slowly. When we leave, the only change should be a working appliance.
  • All major brands, gas & electricWhirlpool, Samsung, LG, GE, Maytag, Bosch, KitchenAid and more — as an independent repair company.
  • Straight answersIf it isn't worth repairing, we'll say so — often on the phone.
